INDIVIDUAL THERAPY & COUNSELLING
Individual sessions can involve the adult, adolescent, pre-teen, child, or preschooler.
All focus on the needs of the client. The individual approach in therapy is partially determined by the developmental stage of the client.
Each individual is a human system with many areas such as physical, emotional, intellectual, psychological, behavioural, and spiritual.
Client concerns originate from a variety of sources, both inside and outside, and specific to the unique individual.
Our psychotherapists and social workers draw on multiple types of therapy that match the individual in terms of developmental stage, area(s) of concern, and type(s) of therapy. This approach allows clients to reach their goals at a pace that is comfortable and effective.
Child and Adolescent Therapy & Counselling focuses on giving children a safe place to express themselves. The sessions are used to help children and adolescents understand their emotions, thoughts, and behaviour. Children learn skills to be able to change how they respond to situations.
The child and adolescent can come to individual counselling and therapy with concerns such as anxiety, depression, peer relationships, body image, parental divorce, bullying and many others. By learning and practising coping skills the child and adolescent can improve in such areas as self-esteem, peer relationships, family relationships and academic functioning and many more.
COUPLE THERAPY & COUNSELLING
Couple sessions focus on developing skills to navigate the changes in every couple relationship. Individuals and relationships change over time.
External stressors can bring great challenges and conflict to the couple's relationship.
During counselling and therapy, there is a focus on each partner expressing themselves.
Couple counselling and therapy is often about changing the way both communicate to ensure they feel heard, understood, and can solve problems together. Improving communication, reconnecting, and feeling appreciated and loved within the relationship is the positive outcome.
Premarital sessions focus on helping couples with the current positive challenges of their relationship.
The sessions work on improving the present relationship as well as anticipating some of the challenges that marriage may bring. Counselling and therapy allow the couple to develop a realistic view of marriage and the skills needed to move forward in a healthy direction as a couple.
FAMILY THERAPY & COUNSELLING
Family sessions focus on helping its members to first identify their specific concerns. A family is a very complex human system.
The needs of the individual and what is occurring in each relationship within the family are important.
It may be necessary in therapy to discuss the past and present to be able to move forward.
Due to the complex nature of a family, therapy involves working on many different levels, such as adult and child.
Our psychotherapists and social workers have expertise in applying evidence based therapies to allow the family to reconnect and develop healthier relationships.
Parent sessions can help one or more parents build or regain positive, trusting relationships with their children.
If there are two parents, part of the counselling and therapy involves the adults working together even if their styles are different.
Parents can learn to better understand the developmental stage of their child based on age.
This in combination with the individuality of the child and how to implement positive behaviour management skills helps children make successful choices.
Again, all of the parenting skills are research-based and proven to achieve the desired goal.
Blended Family sessions can address the unique qualities of joining two families.
It can be difficult to join both family's traditions, values, and beliefs. Parenting approaches may be different.
These new relationships can be fragile. Counselling and therapy can help to navigate through this process and ensure every member of the family is feeling supported and loved.
Adoption is a wonderful experience but can come with challenges.
It can be difficult to integrate the child into your family. The child may come with a history of issues that can cause the child to struggle with trust, building relationships and behaviour.
These can impact the family structure.
Counselling and therapy will focus on helping the family understand each other's needs, creating trusting bonds, and ensuring all members feel safe and supported.
