Will My Benefits Cover This?
Cost is one of the most common reasons people hesitate to reach out. Here's everything you need to know about fees, insurance, and your options — with no surprises.
Session Fees
Extended Health Benefits
Many employer benefit plans cover Registered Psychotherapists (RP) and Registered Social Workers (RSW). Check your plan for "psychotherapy" or "social work" coverage — both designations are represented on our team.
Receipts for Reimbursement
A detailed receipt is provided after each session, including your therapist's credentials, service type, and amount paid. Submit this directly to your insurer for reimbursement. Receipts are also useful for income tax filing.
Employee Assistance Programs (EAP)
We are registered service providers for the Members Assistance Program (MAP). Ask your HR department to refer you to our services, or contact us and we can help you check. If your employer offers an EAP that we are not yet registered with, we can register as a service provider — your sessions will be covered at no cost to you and we will directly bill your EAP.
Does OHIP cover psychotherapy?
No. OHIP does not cover private psychotherapy or social work services. Our fees are paid privately, through extended health insurance benefits, through an EAP or MAP program, or through Ministry-funded programs.
Do you offer direct billing?
We do not offer direct billing to private extended health insurance providers at this time. You pay us for your session and receive a receipt to submit to your insurer for reimbursement. Based on individual circumstances, we offer the option of paying us when you are reimbursed by your insurance company — we just need to receive your payment prior to your next appointment. We direct bill all EAP and Ministry-funded programs.
How do I know if my plan covers this?
Check your benefits booklet or call your insurer and ask whether your plan covers "Registered Psychotherapist" (RP) or "Registered Social Worker" (RSW) services. Not sure? Call us — we're happy to help you figure it out.
Have a question about fees or coverage? Our Intake Coordinator can help.

Everything you need to know before booking your first session in Oshawa and across Ontario.
Do I need a referral to see a therapist at Clinical Consultation & Counselling?
No, you do not need a referral. You can book directly with us — no doctor's note, no waitlist, and no diagnosis required. Simply call, email, or use our online booking system, and our Intake Coordinator will match you with the right therapist for your needs.
How quickly can I get an appointment?
Same-week appointments are often available. Unlike publicly funded mental health services in Ontario that frequently have wait times of three to six months, our private practice typically schedules new clients within a few days. Daytime, evening, and weekend appointments are available both in person in Oshawa and Cobourg, and virtually across all of Ontario.
Does OHIP cover psychotherapy or counselling?
No, OHIP does not cover private psychotherapy, counselling, or social work services in Ontario. However, most extended health benefit plans cover Registered Psychotherapists (RP) and Registered Social Workers (RSW) — both designations are represented on our team. We provide a detailed receipt after each session for reimbursement through your insurer.
What is the difference between a psychotherapist and a social worker?
Both Registered Psychotherapists (RP) and Registered Social Workers (RSW) are qualified to provide psychotherapy in Ontario, regulated by their respective colleges. The main difference is their training background: psychotherapists complete specialized training in psychotherapy, while social workers complete a Master of Social Work degree with a clinical therapeutic focus. Both can effectively treat anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, and other mental health concerns. Our CC&C team includes both designations with educational and professional employment experience focused on therapy..
How much does therapy cost in Oshawa?
Our session fees are $170 for individual therapy, $180 for couples therapy, and $190 for family therapy. Sliding scale rates are available based on individual circumstances — ask our Intake Coordinator. Most extended health plans reimburse a portion of these fees, and we direct bill all Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) and Ministry-funded programs.
What types of therapy do you offer?
Our Registered Psychotherapists and Registered Social Workers provide evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness-based therapy, and solution-focused therapy. We work with individuals, couples, and families navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, grief, addiction, relationship challenges, and more.
Can I switch therapists if it is not a good fit?
Absolutely. The therapeutic relationship is one of the most important factors in successful therapy, and we want you to feel completely comfortable. If at any point you feel your current therapist is not the right fit, simply let our Intake Coordinator know and we will match you with another team member. We also offer a free 15-minute consultation before your first session so you can get a sense of fit before committing.
Do you offer online therapy across Ontario?
Yes. We provide secure virtual therapy sessions to clients anywhere in Ontario — including Whitby, Ajax, Pickering, Courtice, and beyond. Four of our therapists are dedicated solely to virtual care, and our in-person therapists in Oshawa and Cobourg also offer video sessions. All you need is a smartphone, tablet, or computer with internet access.
Still have questions? Our Intake Coordinator is happy to help you figure out the right next step — with no commitment required. We also offer a free 15-minute consultation with a therapist so you can get a sense of whether this is right for you before committing to anything.
